Study of Scripture
Our Values
What we do
Focus on the study of the written word (Genesis to Revelation) and its Hebraic roots
Historically, the community was founded on the study of the par'shah cycle in groups
Whilst we value commentary (ancient or modern), it is always subsidiary to the text.
Be steadfast in meeting together (as in Acts 2:42)
The community began with people who made a commitment to meet together
(for at least six months) and spend time in personal study as well as in study together.
Seek the shalom (wholeness/peace) of our brother / sister (as in Gen 37:14)
We are here to help each-other reach our full potential in Messiah
Participate in Shabbat and the rhythm of work and rest
Many have testified how recognition of Shabbat was a significant milestone in their walk
What we Guard
Embrace lifelong learning, be teachable, walk out our understanding of the word
We have avoided "statements of faith" preferring to focus on how we walk rather than what we believe.
The early church used the expression, "(followers) of the way" - Acts 9:2
We have found unlearning and re-learning to be a natural part of the walk
Be face to face with each other, naked and unashamed (Gen 2:25)
We understand this to mean, being honest and open with one another about our
successes, failures and challenges
Listen to one another. Respect the opinions of others in the community and our intrinsic diversity.
Studies together are primarily participatory not lectures (except occasional external speaker).
We have found it is unhelpful to "preach at" others or try to persuade them to our point of view.
Individual and corporate humility
We do not wish to criticise other communities and we recognise that this community is neither intrinsically better than others nor is it right for everyone.
We do not seek or expect personal honour.
