About the event

Why do we celebrate the biblical new month?


We find it helpful to gather at the beginning of each new month to celebrate, reflect, and look ahead to upcoming special meeting times with God (Moedim). As a community, we follow the cycle of these appointed times, as outlined in Leviticus 23, which align with the biblical months. We also recognize the traditional Jewish names of the months, as they carry deep meaning related to the season. These themes help us focus our minds on how God is working in our lives throughout the year.


The Torah doesn’t say much about the New Moon, except for Yom Teruah on the 1st of the 7th month, which is mentioned in Leviticus 23. However, God did command special sacrifices for these days: two bulls, one ram, and seven one-year-old male lambs as burnt offerings, along with grain and drink offerings, plus a sin…
